SsangYong Motor Company (CEO Byung-tae Yea; www.kg-mobility.com/en) announced that the company sold a total of 12,338 units in May 2019 – 10,106 units in domestic sales and 2,232 in exports, including CKD kits.
SsangYong's May 2019 sales decreased 4.6 percent from a year earlier. Its domestic sales reported a growth based on the popularity of its new products, while its exports dropped due to the re-arrangement of the product lineup.
However, SsangYong's Jan-May sales increased 9.8 percent compared to the same period last year thanks to the steady growth in the domestic market. The company's monthly sales at home exceeded 10,000 units for three consecutive months helped by new products such as the all-new Korando.
In the Korean domestic market, the company's monthly sales increased 4.1 percent over the same month last year, and Jan-May sales jumped a substantial 14.1 percent based on the sales growth of the Tivoli brand as well as the brand-new Korando.
The Tivoli brand has been leading the small SUV segment as its sales in May recorded the best-monthly sales this year.
In the overseas market, the company's exports dropped due to the re-arrangement of the product mix, but it expects a gradual recovery as the brand-new Korando is ready to be shipped to the global market.
SsangYong Motor is launching the Tivoli face-lift model on June 4. The Very New Tivoli, a face-lifted model of the current Tivoli, is equipped with the company's first 1.5 litre gasoline turbo engine and state-of-the-art features including the vehicle control technology 'Deep Control'.
Byung-tae Yea, CEO of SsangYong Motor Company, commented, "We continue to see a steady sales growth in the domestic market by launching new cars despite the overall market downturn," adding, "We will increase our global sales by expanding the product lineup with models like the Very New Tivoli in the second half of the year."
