▪ SsangYong to set an annual sales record this year based on extended lineup
SsangYong Motor Company(CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.kg-mobility.com/en), part of the Mahindra Group, announced that the company sold a total of 10,420 units in January 2017 – 7,015 units in domestic sales and 3,405 in exports.
SsangYong’s January sales grew by 3.4% compared to the same month last year helped by the continued uptrend in the Tivoli sales even though it was off-season for car sales due to the reduced working days and termination of the Korea Sale Festa (massive shopping campaign).
Its domestic sales were 6.8% up over the same month last year thanks to the popularity of the Tivoli brand which have led the company’s sales growth. Last month, sales of the Tivoli brand jumped by 19.5% year-on-year at 3,851 units in the domestic market.
SsangYong plans to increase its sales by strengthening its sales capacity based on its extended lineup including recently released face-lifted New Korando and upcoming premium large SUV, in addition to the existing best-selling car Tivoli.
Its exports slightly dropped by 3.0% over the same month last year due to the sluggish global economy. However, its exports to the Middle East market including Iran, emerged as the biggest export market last year, were 16.7% higher from the previous year thanks to the popularity of the Tivoli brand.
Currently, SsangYong pushes forward with its market diversification plans by re-shipping to the Russian market as well as increasing the exports to the Middle East market. Furthermore, the company is accelerating its efforts to run international operations such as building local manufacturing plant in China.
Choi Johng-sik, CEO of SsangYong Motor Company, commented, “SsangYong’s January sales increased by 3.4% from the previous year thanks to our top-selling Tivoli brand models,” adding, “We will achieve best ever sales record this year based on our strengthened lineup.”
