▪ Ssangyong to sell Tivoli Air, its new growth engine, from May globally
Seoul, S. Korea, May 2, 2016:Ssangyong Motor (CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.kg-mobility.com), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 13,462 units in April 2016 – 9,133 units in domestic sales and 4,329 in exports.
Ssangyong posted best-ever 2016 monthly sales in both of domestic and overseas market, up 7.4% compared to the same month last year. It was attributed to Tivoli brand models - Tivoli and Tivoli Air (Export name : XLV) - which also recorded the highest-ever monthly sales to 7,788 units since their launches.
Thanks to the strong sales of Tivoli brand models globally which jumped 35.5% year-on-year, the company’s sales has been increasing for four consecutive months this year.
In the domestic market, its sales surged 12.3% from a year earlier by exceeding 9,000 units for the second straight month helped by Tivoli Air which increased 62.8% from the previous month to 2,342 units.
The sales of Tivoli brand models jumped 57.2% on-year to 5,375 units, breaking the previous highest monthly sales of 5,237 units set in October 2015 especially driven by Tivoli Air which enjoys huge popularity in the entry-level lower to mid-sized SUV market.
Ssangyong’s exports also jumped 9.8% from a month ago with a sales uptrend for four months in a row, recovering to 4,000 unit level in 11 months since May 2015 when the company exported 4,229 units. However, compared to April 2015, the sales slightly declined 1.6% due to reduced demands in the emerging markets.
As the export growth of Tivoli brand models recorded 103.4% from January 2016 to April 2016 compared to the same period last year, and the Tivoli Air will start to be sold abroad in earnest from May, the company’s exports are expected to consistently improve.
Ssangyong makes an effort to strengthen cooperation with global networks ahead of sales of Tivoli Air in the overseas market in various ways including a Global Distributor Conference where dealers and managers from 40 countries attended. Tivoli Air plans to be sold locally in Europe from May and in China from June.
Choi Johng-sik, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “As Tivoli Air is enjoying huge popularity along with No. 1 compact SUV Tivoli, the Tivoli brand models recorded the highest monthly sales figure since their launches,” adding, “We will increase global sales continuously by entering diverse overseas market based on Tivoli brand models, our new growth engine.”
