Ssangyong Motor (CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.kg-mobility.com), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 12,372 units in June 2015 – 8,420 units in domestic sales and 3,952 in exports.
Ssangyong maintained its sales uptrend based on domestic sales growth, the highest among the automakers in June boosted by strong sales of the Tivoli, exceeding 12,000 units again following April.
The Tivoli, which has created a sensation in the compact SUV market, led the sales momentum with the sales of 6,039 units, including 3,630 units in domestic sales and 2,409 units in exports. Its monthly sales surpassed 5,000 level for three straight months, and especially, exceeded 6,000 units for the first time in five months since its launch in January 2015.
Boosted by the Tivoli’s strong sales, the company posted the highest ever monthly sales in the domestic market since 2005 with an increase of 63.3% from a year earlier, maintaining its upward trend.
Even though Ssangyong’s exports continue to be on the downtrend compared to 2014 due to priority supply to domestic market amid the deteriorated export situation, a recovery is expected steadily as the company started to launch the Tivoli in earnest in strategic overseas markets including the European and Chinese markets, as well as shipping the diesel-powered Tivoli.
The company is gearing up for the European and Chinese markets by focusing on global and regional marketing activities including the launch events and test-drive events of the Tivoli in Italy, Belgium and China from May.
Choi Johng-sik, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “We recorded the highest domestic monthly sales in 10 years helped by strong sales of the Tivoli, and witness a continued sales uptrend in June,” adding, “We will step up our efforts to increase our presence in the global compact SUV market more aggressively based on our strengthened product lineup including the Tivoli diesel model.”
