Ssangyong Motor records global sales of 12,531 units

May.06.2015

▪ Ssangyong’s global sales in April are 12,531 vehicles, exceeding 12,000 for two straight months

▪ Tivoli leads Ssangyong’s sales momentum, surpassing 5,000 units in global sales

▪ Ssangyong will expand its sales to maintain uptrend by launching Tivoli globally and operating production line with greater efficiency

Ssangyong Motor (CEO Choi Johng-sik; www.kg-mobility.com), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 12,531 units in April 2015 – 8,130 units in domestic sales and 4,401 in exports.

Ssangyong’s monthly global sales surpassed 12,000 vehicles for the second straight month helped by the sales uptrend in the domestic market, with the highest sales growth among the automakers, thanks to the popularity of the Tivoli.

The Tivoli, which has created a sensation in the compact SUV market since its launch, led the sales momentum with total sales of 5,747 unit sales. The Tivoli’s domestic sales recorded 3,420 units and its exports were 2,327 units in April.

Boosted by the Tivoli’s strong sales, the company saw its highest monthly sales in the domestic market this year, up 35.3% compared to April 2014. It is also for the first time that its domestic sales exceeded 8,000 vehicles in this year.

The company expects that this year’s domestic sales may surpass last year’s figure and maintain an upward trend for six consecutive years.

Even though Ssangyong’s exports still struggled against a decline of exports to major overseas markets including Russia, a recovery is expected soon, since the Tivoli was launched globally, and its shipments have started since March this year.

Meanwhile, Ssangyong introduced the Tivoli in the European and Chinese markets through the Geneva Motor Show and the Auto Shanghai show in March and April. The company plans to carry out marketing activities aggressively to ensure successful global sales of the Tivoli from June, including a large-scale media test-drive event this month.

Choi Johng-sik, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “Our monthly sales exceeded 12,000 units for the second straight month with the highest domestic sales record in this year thanks to the Tivoli’s robust sales,” adding, “We will expand our sales to maintain the current uptrend by launching the Tivoli globally and operate its production line efficiently to reduce the backorders for the Tivoli.”
