▪ Ssangyong’s global sales in Feb 2015 were down 17.6% year-on-year to 9,724 vehicles
▪ Domestic sales were up 19.4% year-on-year, surpassing 6,000 units for two consecutive months boosted by popular Tivoli
▪ Ssangyong will expand sales by launching Tivoli globally and establishing efficient production system
Ssangyong Motor (CEO Lee Yoo-il; www.kg-mobility.com), part of the Mahindra Group, today announced that the company sold a total of 9,724 units in February 2015 – 6,571 units in domestic sales and 3,153 in exports including CKD kits.
This was a decline of 17.6% compared to the same month last year due to reduced working days and declined shipments to the Russian market, while its domestic sales increased thanks to the Tivoli sales.
In the domestic market, its sales exceeded 6,000 units for the second straight month, up 19.4% from the previous year and 22.3% on a cumulative basis. Though the working days reduced due to Lunar New Year holidays, its sales rose helped by increased sales of the Tivoli.
The Tivoli, whose sales recorded 2,312 units in January since its launch on 13 January, led the company’s sales momentum with sales of 2,898 units in February and emerged as a core model in the compact SUV segment.
Ssangyong’s exports in February declined by 50% year-on-year as the company strategically continued to reduce its shipments to Russia in response to the Ruble crisis. However, it is expected to be recovered after March when the Tivoli starts to be shipped to the European and Chinese markets.
The company will hold a special exhibition of the Tivoli during the press day at Geneva Motor Show, and will push ahead with expanding its global sales by launching the Tivoli worldwide in earnest.
Furthermore, the company will continue to make utmost efforts to operate the production system in an efficient way to meet increasing demand of the Tivoli.
Lee Yoo-il, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, commented, “Despite the reduced working days, our domestic sales continue uptrend boosted by the increased sales of the Tivoli,” adding, “We will further expand global sales through a worldwide launch of the Tivoli and establishment of the efficient production system.”
