Apr.23.2013

▪ Ssangyong Motor to target Chinese high-end auto market with its major SUV model, the Rexton W.
▪ Seven models, including the new SUV-concept car SIV-1 and other popular models, to be exhibited
in a space with a total area of 716㎡.
▪ The company to expand its sales network and consolidate its reputation as a leading maker
of SUVs in China, with a sales target of 10,000 vehicles this year.

Ssangyong Motor(CEO Lee Yoo-il;www.kg-mobility.com), part of the USD15.9 billion Mahindra Group, officially introduced the Rexton W for Chinese consumers at the press day event for Auto Shanghai 2013 on April 20, marking the company’s first step toward entering the high-end Chinese auto market.

By displaying its premium sports utility vehicle Rexton W, at Auto Shanghai from April 20 through April 29, Ssangyong seeks to strengthen its profile and product lineup in China, which is the world’s largest auto market. The company will also display the mid-sized SUV concept SIV-1, which was unveiled at Geneva Motor Show in March, so as to provide the audience with a glimpse into the company’s vision of the future of automobiles.

The Ssangyong Rexton W is going to be made available with one of three power trains: namely, two types of diesel engines and a gasoline engine, from which drivers can choose according to their needs and preferences.

The e-XDi200, a diesel engine, is designed to produce maximum torque under a variety of practical conditions so that it performs at an optimal level in various urban environments. The XDi270 is another diesel engine whose safety and durability at high speed has been proven. The XGi3200 is the gasoline engine noted for its powerhouse performance, lowest-possible level of noise for an SUV, and driving safety.

The Mercedes-Benz-made e-Tronic five-speed auto transmission, praised for its versatile performance and safety, will serve to perfect the experience of driving this high-performance vehicle.

The Ssangyong Rexton W will boast enhanced safety features completed by its triple-layer reinforced steel frame and highly durable body design. Equipped with the latest electronic stability program (ESP), active rollover protection (ARP), tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and obstacle-detection system both at the front and rear, this SUV provides maximum comfort and convenience.

In addition, the Ssangyong Rexton W comes with a broad array of convenient and attractive options, including the Eco Cruise Control System; a sliding headrest; easily accessible memory seats; an audio system capable of playing MP3 and WMA files from USB memory sticks; and a Bluetooth audio streaming function that allows the driver to use their mobile phone hands-free safely, even while driving.

Ssangyong will begin distributing this high-end SUV throughout its sales network across China upon unveiling it for the first time to the Chinese public at Auto Shanghai 2013.

Having decided to feature its seven models, including the Rexton W, Korando C, and Chairman W Limousine, as well as its new concept car SIV-1, Ssangyong Motor will seek to enhance its profile and product lineup in China.

The SIV-1, which stands for the first smart interface vehicle, is a mid-sized SUV-concept car first unveiled at the last Geneva Motor Show. The model features powerful and dynamic styling, embodying dynamics that are a part of the “Nature-born 3Motion,” a set of three principles that explains Ssangyong’s new design philosophy. The vehicle supports two-way communications between the driver and the car using the latest information technology.

The Chinese SUV market has grown at a rate of 43 percent a year for the last three years. The SUV segment occupied 4.9 percent of the overall auto market in 2005, but rapidly grew to represent 13 percent of the market in 2012, supporting the high hopes and ambitions of Ssangyong Motor.

In order to meet its goal of selling 10,000 vehicles in China this year, and to secure a greater number of points of contact with Chinese consumers, the company will expand its sales network of 80 dealerships to 100 dealerships by the end of 2014. The company will also host off-road driving events; inviting Chinese consumers to get a taste of Ssangyong’s highly praised four-wheel drive experience, and thereby uphold the company’s reputation as a leading maker of SUVs.

Lee Yoo-il, CEO of Ssangyong Motor, remarked: “In the Chinese SUV market that is growing at an astonishing pace, we are seeing a steady increase in the number of Ssangyong Korando C gasoline model being sold. We will continue to consolidate and strengthen our position in the Chinese high-end SUV market with the Ssangyong Rexton W, a leading Korean SUV model that has been a steady seller since its release.”
