Ssangyong Motor (CEO Johng-Sik Choi;www.kg-mobility.com/en) officially launched the Tivoli (sold as Tivolan in China) at the Auto Shanghai 2015 on April 20, 2015, marking the company’s first step toward the small SUV market in China.
By showcasing its first compact SUV, Tivoli at the Auto Shanghai 2015 which is held at the National Center for Exhibition and Convention staring from April 20 to 29, 2015, SsangYong seeks to consolidate its reputation as a global SUV maker in China, the biggest automotive market in the world. The company displays Tivoli EVR as well, premiered at the Geneva Motor Show 2015, showing eco-friendly technologies for the next generation.
Johng-Sik Choi, CEO of SsangYong Motor, commented, “We see a lot of potential for SsangYong as SUV market in China has been increasing at a rapid growth rate. Launching Tivoli along with the New Korando will make breakthrough in future growth.” adding, “We aim to improve our brand awareness in China and expand presence in a compact SUV market through superior product competiveness of Tivoli and aggressive marketing campaign.”
Tivoli will go on sales in June in China with the 1.6 liter gasoline model, followed by its high-efficient diesel and 4WD version in the future. Meanwhile, Tivoli has been leading a compact SUV market since its launch in Korea thanks to its stylish European design, excellent driving performance, spacious storage area, class-leading convenience features.
SsangYong displays a total of 7 models, including Chairman W, Rexton W, New Korando, Actyon, Actyon Sports and the concept car, Tivoli EVR at the booth of 810m2.
The Tivoli EVR(Electric Vehicle with Range-extender), which was premiered at the Geneva Motor Show in March, is an eco-friendly concept car featuring the futuristic style and pursuing the Pure Dynamic Driving with electronic vehicle technology. ▲The driving distance of up to 130km with EV mode and 500km with Range Extend mode is available, while the car delivers up to max. speed of 150km/h whereas CO₂emission level is low as 35g/km.
SsangYong previously launched the ‘New Korando’ launch in 2013 and the ‘New Actyon’ in 2014, and with Tivoli launch in 2015, the company plans to enter the SUV-B segment and more aggressively promote SsangYong brands in Chinese market with its SUV full line-up.
Especially, SsangYong expects great opportunity with successful launch of Tivoli as SUV-B segment in China has been soaring lately, recording the annual growth rate of 90% and more in 2014 while its portion in total SUV market has been increased up to 19%, up by 6% from a year earlier.
SsangYong has promoted its reputation as a global SUV specialist with various marketing activities, such as “Rising Dragon Cross China Tour” event highlighting the excellent performance of SsangYong vehicles by driving cross country supported by its outstanding 4x4 technology last year.
Setting this year’s sales target of 15,000 units (including 5000 units of Tivoli), up by 20% from last year’s, SsangYong plans to expand sales network and execute various marketing strategies.
